Students learn that stories come from unknown origins and have meaning and cohesion only discernable upon reflection. The students created a ghost story where the lead character (the Ghost) is invisible to Willis--the out-of-towner who unknowingly summons her. Of course she is furious that she goes unnoticed (she is vain like Snow White's wicked stepmother)...when we discussed motivation for this story it became clear that basic tenants of male/female relations are at play. The characters came first, then the relationship between the characters..then the conflict based on that relationship, and finally the resolution...what happens when a ghost can't get noticed! Watch out!
